What inspired you to be a dentist?
When I was 14 years old in Canada, I would visit our neighbourhood dentist and it was he who introduced me to the field of dentistry.
Dentistry is one of those rare fields where you can help make a difference in someone's life and provide instant satisfaction. I am always inspired to meet people from different backgrounds, occupations, and cultures. My job is also rewarding when a patient is relaxed in the dental chair, surprised with the pain-free dentistry techniques, and happy with the treatment. Dentistry helps improve the quality of life for everyone.
What is the biggest change you've seen in dentistry over the last 5 or 10 years?
The biggest change in Dentistry has been the use of porcelain and other ceramic restorations either through a single visit procedure utilizing the latest CAD/CAM technology, or through the use of a highly qualified technician in a laboratory setting. The technology has become so advanced in creating the most esthetic and strongest crowns to replace fractured teeth, large cavities, or root canaled teeth. Ultimately, the ceramic restorations nowadays are providing longevity and health to the tooth.
What's the most common misconception about dentistry?
The most common misconception in dentistry is the idea that "if there is no pain then there is no need to visit the dentist". The reality is it is crucial to visit the dentist every 6 months for a cleaning and full mouth checkup to maintain healthy gums and teeth. If we treat cavities while they are small, then the tooth will last longer, and the patient will save time and money in the long run.
What are the treatments that you offer?
As a general dentist, I perform all types of dental treatments. I offer fillings with composite or ceramic material, anterior cosmetic bonding, veneers, crowns, root canals, non-surgical extractions, paediatric, and trauma emergency cases. I also offer orthodontic Invisalign treatment which, unlike the traditional metal braces, can help straighten teeth in a short period of time using clear aligners.
What do you enjoy doing outside of dentistry?
I enjoy spending time with my husband and our 2 little active boys. It gives me the greatest joy to watch them grow up. I also enjoy reading a good book, doing bikram yoga, travelling, and watching Roger Federer play tennis.
