Customs officers were given a rather odd task of holding a chopstick between their teeth as they smiled. Why?
"The purpose is to perfect their smiles," said Zhang Tianbao, political officer in charge of the Dalian station. He told NBC News that seeing one’s pearly whites was imperative to a beautiful smile.
During a “How to Smile” course held by the Dalian Port Inspection Station in Liaoning, China’s northeastern province, participants were trained to show only the best smile results. That is, to show only eight teeth while they are smiling.
Also, according to the Liaoning Customs Office the aim of the training was 'to standardize officials' amenity protocols and upgrade their receiving skills'.
