These are invisible braces that straighten teeth without the inconvenience of wires and brackets. They are clear, removable, and less noticeable than traditional braces. Invisalign is generally chosen by adults who would like to improve their smile but are put off by the bulky appearance of conventional braces.

Also known as “train tracks”, traditional metal braces are made from stainless steel, and are also a popular choice amongst children and adolescents. These affordable and versatile braces help to align your teeth properly. They are applied to your teeth through wires and brackets.

These are discreetly hidden at the back of your teeth so no one can see them and there is no need to take them out. They are customized to the shape of a patient’s teeth with intelligent wires and brackets.

Made of strong composite material, these are tooth-colored braces that work in the same way as metal braces but are more discreet and less visible. Since they are virtually unnoticeable, they are ideal for patients who are aesthetically driven.

This orthodontic treatment makes use of the ‘self-ligating’ system that links the wires to brackets, allowing them to move naturally with the teeth without the need for elastics or metal ties. These braces can save you trips to your orthodontist for in-office tightening and are also slightly more discreet.

They are a form of preventive dentistry. Myobraces are applied on children at an early age to prevent problems like shifting of the teeth, bite problems, crooked teeth, etc., from impeding their dental health. They are removable braces made of soft medical grade silicone.

When do I need to get braces?

Owing to these symptoms of misaligned or overcrowded teeth, our dentists highly recommend an orthodontic type of treatment that involves teeth braces with arch wires to straighten your teeth, followed by a retainer to maintain its alignment, and avoid relapses.

Procedure for getting dental braces

  • Initial Consultation

Firstly, the general dentist will examine your teeth and gums, both physically as well as using a dental X-ray. Upon evaluation, if the dentist believes that you may require braces for your teeth. Then, you are referred to an orthodontist for further treatment.

  • Orthodontic Examination

Here, the orthodontist will check your teeth and check for alignment issues. Next, they will communicate a suitable course of treatment to you, which will include information concerning the type of braces recommended to use for the dental procedure, its duration, and costs.

  • Fitting of the Braces

Next, the dentist will proceed to the fitting of the braces in your mouth. Initially, a cheek retractor is placed inside the mouth, to enhance the visibility of the teeth during the process.

  • Teeth cleaning & Cementing

Later, the teeth are polished, clean conditioned, air-dried, and primed, before brackets are placed on them. Before this step, non-adhesive dental cement is applied to the teeth to strengthen the bonding of the brackets and cured using laser light.

  • Placement of Arch Wires

Once the dental braces have been put in place, the cheek retractor is removed, and the dentist proceeds to install the archwires in their place.

  • Adjustment of Braces & Follow-up

The dental braces are now put in place. After this, the dentist will instruct the patient to have regular dental check-ups. This is done to check on the alignment progress made by these braces as well as adjust them or replace their elastic ties if needed.

FAQs

Most frequently asked questions

The cost of braces in Dubai can vary considerably depending on several factors such as the complexity of your case, the type of braces chosen, and the duration of the treatment. Here’s a general breakdown:

  1. Metal Braces: Traditional metal braces are the most common type and are typically the least expensive option. The cost for metal braces in Dubai can range from AED 5,000 to AED 22,000.

  2. Ceramic Braces: Ceramic braces are similar to metal braces, but they use tooth-colored or clear brackets to be less noticeable. These generally cost slightly more than metal braces, with prices ranging from AED 6,000 to AED 25,000.

  3. Lingual Braces: Lingual braces are attached to the back of the teeth making them invisible when you smile. These are more complex to apply and adjust, which makes them more expensive. You can expect lingual braces to cost from AED 10,000 to AED 30,000.

  4. Clear Aligners (e.g., Invisalign): Clear aligners are a series of custom-made removable trays that straighten teeth like braces but without metal wires and brackets. They are nearly invisible and more comfortable than traditional braces but are also more expensive. The cost for clear aligners in Dubai can range from AED 5,000 to AED 28,000.

A consultation with our orthodontist will give you an idea about the approximate treatment fee and duration of the orthodontic treatment.

Treatment lengths vary from person to person, but typically people wear braces for 12 to 24 months. The amount of time you wear braces will also depend on your treatment needs. For problems that are harder to fix, or for older patients, treatment may take up to three years.

During your initial consultation, our specialist orthodontist will provide you with an estimate of the length of your orthodontic treatment.

There isn’t a particular age that’s best for getting braces. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not just children and teens who are ideal candidates for braces. Adults of all ages can be viable candidates for braces to achieve their desirable smiles and correct dental issues.

However, the teenage years and early adulthood are more or less the ‘sweet spot’ for most orthodontic treatments. During the adolescent stage, the jawline and underlying tissue are still developing. Your teeth tend to respond more quickly to pressure from orthodontic treatments at this period. We recommend a consultation with our specialist orthodontists who can guide you about the right treatment for you.

No, wearing braces will not interfere with playing sports or playing instruments. You can continue playing any sport or instrument you like while undergoing orthodontic treatment, but you do need to take precautions to keep your braces and mouth safe.

Mouthguards are the single best way to protect your teeth when playing sports, especially high-contact ones such as football, hockey, and boxing.

Once your braces are removed, your teeth have been moved into their new, correct positions. However, the structures that support the teeth — the gums and underlying jaw bone — need more time to adjust to this new positioning. This is why wearing a retainer post-braces is so important.

A retainer is a custom-made appliance designed to keep your teeth in place. The length of time you’ll need to wear a retainer varies. Some people may need to wear it full-time for a while, while others may only need to wear it at night. The duration depends on your individual treatment plan. Over time, your orthodontist may reduce the hours per day you need to wear your retainer, but it’s often recommended to continue nighttime wear indefinitely to prevent any future shifting. Regular check-ups with your orthodontist post-braces are also necessary to ensure your teeth are maintaining their new position.

Taking care of your braces is crucial to ensure they’re as effective as possible and to maintain your oral health throughout treatment. Here’s a detailed routine for you to follow:

  • Oral Hygiene: With braces, maintaining good oral hygiene is even more important than usual. Food particles and plaque can get trapped in and around the brackets, which can lead to cavities, gum disease, or unsightly staining. Brush your teeth after every meal, and use interdental brushes or floss threaders to clean underneath the wires and between brackets.
  • Eating Habits: Certain foods can damage your braces or get stuck in them. Avoid hard foods (like nuts, hard candies, and ice), sticky foods (like chewing gum and caramel), and foods high in sugar. Be cautious with fruits and vegetables, cutting them into smaller pieces rather than biting into them can prevent brackets from breaking off.
  • Regular Orthodontic Visits: Regular visits to your orthodontist are essential when you have braces. During these visits, your orthodontist will adjust your braces, which helps to continually apply the correct pressure to straighten your teeth. They will also monitor your oral health and the progress of your treatment.
  • Protecting Your Braces: If you play sports, it’s important to protect your braces from potential damage. Use a mouthguard designed for braces when participating in any sporting activity.

By adhering to these guidelines, you can ensure your braces are effective, and your smile remains healthy throughout your orthodontic journey.
