Being a family dentist, Dr. Margarida particularly enjoys seeing children to set a good base for the future. Treating them in a very gentle manner, she finds that positive first experiences have a beneficial influence on their perception of dental treatment throughout their adult lives.

“My aim is to work in the most biological and conservative way after having established the proper diagnosis. Therefore, when I propose a treatment plan, I always follow the family rule: “Would I do this to my children, siblings or parents?”

“My ultimate goal is to provide my patients with a healthy oral function while providing a natural, beautiful and facially integrated smile.”

Dr. Margarida is fluent in Portuguese, French, English and Spanish.

Up Close & Personal with Dr. Margarida O’Neill

What do you like most about your job?

As dentists we don’t save lives but by giving new smiles, we often transform lives. I have always enjoyed working with my hands and in dentistry I found a purpose to this passion. Besides, I love to revisit my patients often.

How do you see the future of dentistry?

Digital transformation is already impacting our clinical working environment and I believe that in the future we will see this even more. Eventually, some robotics will start being applied to it as well, with recognition of diseased tissue and replacement with a biomimetic material.
On a prevention point of view, ideally there would be a way to instantly stabilize the mouth pH thereby greatly reducing demineralization.

What are your hobbies? What do you like to do outside of work?

Living in Dubai, I feel very blessed to be in such a multicultural environment as I love to discover new cultures and traditions on my bike strolls.
My other hobbies are reading, yoga, tennis and sailing. I recently started playing the piano as well.

What is the best advice you can give to your patients?

Live a healthy lifestyle as your choices will ultimately impact your oral health. Pursue your passions and care for yourself and others.
