Procedure for Metal Braces
Initial consultation
The orthodontist will examine the condition of your teeth and gums and will then decide on a suitable treatment plan. You will also be provided with adequate knowledge concerning the treatment methods available to you.
Examination and treatment designing
Once your gum/teeth problems are addressed, X-rays of your mouth, teeth and smile will be taken by your orthodontist to evaluate your teeth structure properly. Additionally, impressions of your teeth are taken to design your treatment.
Attaching brackets & Bands
To attach the brackets, a small amount of non-toxic adhesive is placed on each tooth and cured by blue light to set it. The brackets will then be placed on each tooth. Following, metal bands are also placed to anchor the braces.
Placement of braces
Arch wires are finally attached to the brackets by wrapping a small rubber band or ligature around each bracket to fix the wire in position. The wire is snipped so it doesn’t poke your gums or the back of your mouth.

FAQs
Most frequently asked questions
The treatment cost of these teeth braces varies from one patient’s case to another. Prices also depend on the complexity of your teeth condition and the length of the orthodontic treatment that may be required. Generally, metal braces that are made of stainless steel, cost less than ceramic braces or other types of braces like lingual braces or damon braces.
This will vary from person to person since no two sets of teeth and jaw are alike. Generally, the average treatment duration for orthodontic braces is between one and three years. However, this duration will depend on several other factors such as the type of bite issue, its severity, the nature of misalignment, your age, and the health of your teeth.
At our dental clinic in Dubai, our orthodontists recommend a checkup every four to eight weeks post braces work. This is done to ensure that your brackets and wire are secured in their place.
During these appointments, the orthodontist will check the progress of your teeth’s alignment and make frequent adjustments such as tightening the braces, replacing wires or elastics, etc., wherever needed.
The answer to that question is almost always yes. It is considered to be an important step after your braces are removed.
Retainers are custom-made devices designed to hold your teeth in place. They ensure that your teeth do not shift back to their original position and the time/money you’ve spent on this treatment, would not go to waste.
In the initial stages, you may experience some pain and soreness in your teeth and gums following the placement of your braces. As the wires and brackets start exerting pressure on your teeth to straighten them, you may feel discomfort that will gradually ease.
Cold and soft foods like ice cream, yoghurt, or smoothies may offer some relief. Additionally, over-the-counter pain relievers can also help alleviate this discomfort. You can also apply orthodontic wax over any sharp areas to prevent scratching or irritation.
