Dubai, UAE: A dental hygienist is a specially trained, licensed dental practitioner who focuses on examining patients for signs of oral diseases, providing treatment and carrying out preventative dental care.
Louise Carne, Editor of Connector Magazine, visited our dental hygienist Safiyah Adham for teeth cleaning and here’s what she has to say.
"When I made my appointment I asked them to let the hygienist know that I had extremely sensitive teeth. So Safiyah had already prepared a topical numbing gel to apply before she started. Once this was done and had taken effect she started. A dental cleaning involves removing plaque and tartar deposits that have built up on the teeth over time. If tartar is allowed to accumulate on the teeth it provides the right conditions for bacteria to thrive next to the gums. The purpose of the cleaning and polishing is basically to leave the surfaces of the teeth clean and smooth so that bacteria are unable to stick to them and you have a better chance of keeping the teeth clean during your regular home care."
What are the results?
"As Safiyah was very understanding about how sensitive my teeth are, the combination of her gentle handling and the numbing gel allowed her to do a full clean – without me leaping about! And I always love that smooth and clean feeling afterwards."
Prices range from Dhs350 to 650 – Dhs350 would be for a child or a light 30 min cleaning, Dhs550 is average (adults) and Dhs650 is for a deep cleaning (adults).
