Dr. Michael’s Dental Clinic in Dubai Welcomes New Specialist Orthodontist

Dr. Michael’s Dental Clinic in Dubai is pleased to welcome Dr. Kasem Atassi to its team of Specialist Orthodontists.

I love biomechanics. I liked the mix of mechanics and dentistry, that elegant blend between biology and physics to get a more aesthetic smile. –Dr. Kasem Atasi

30th September 2018, Dubai, UAE: Dr. Michael’s Dental Clinic in Dubai is pleased to announce the latest addition to its team of Specialist Orthodontists.

Dr. Kasem Atassi is a highly-trained Specialist Orthodontist who brings 25 years of experience to Dr. Michael’s. He is an expert in multidisciplinary orthodontic treatment for children, teens and adults.

“Throughout my college education, I have come across certain dental modules that have genuinely interested me. Genetics, anatomy, the facial growth and development and physiology of the bone were fields that would gracefully preoccupy me,” said Dr. Kasem.

“One field however, that has genuinely intrigued me was biomechanics. I liked that mix of mechanics and dentistry, that elegant blend between biology and physics, to get the final result as the more aesthetic smile, the more adequate facial proportion and beauty. Hence, I decided to pursue orthodontics as my career, as it encompasses all the mentioned fields.”

Dr. Kasem got his DDS from the University of Aleppo, Syria in 1988 and earned his Diploma in Dentofacial Orthopedics and Orthodontics from the University of Lille II, France in 1992. Furthering his education, he earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Occlusion from the Saint-Joseph University of Beirut, Lebanon in 2005.

He began his career as an Orthodontist in his own private orthodontic clinic in 1993. After a few years, he moved to Jeddah where he worked and currently holds the position of Consultant Orthodontist in one of the most prestigious hospitals in Saudi Arabia. He also served as the Chairperson of the Dental and Maxillofacial Department of the same hospital from 2016 to 2018.

When asked about the biggest change he has seen in orthodontics he said, “The main change is the increased number of patients seeking to enhance their teeth positioning to get better mastication function and aesthetic result, and this increased demand happened, in my opinion, for many reasons.”

“First, the change in the old paradigm that braces are only for teens. In fact, with the consistent improvement in technology and technique of moving the teeth, we can treat all patients across all age groups today. Nowadays, it is very normal to encounter an adult person above 50 years of age having braces of some kind. Secondly, a lot of patients would not accept any kind of teeth irregularities, no matter how mild. They all want to get the best and perfect smile, one that’s proportional and natural looking. The media had a big impact on that issue, of course.”

Dr. Kasem is now seeing patients at Dr. Michael’s Orthodontic Center in Umm Suqeim 1, Al Wasl Road. Please call +971 4 358 7788 or book your appointment online.
